We were THOSE people….

We took our kid to the ER.

The day that I dreaded finally arrived.  The day that my little boy was sick and I could not help him feel better.  I had suspected that Kyton was developing an ear infection along with his first two teeth.  Earlier in the week I talked to my mom about taking him into the doctor.  He was super fussy in the evening (for mommy) but fine during the day (for daddy.) I decided to wait it out.  I know that antibiotics are a huge debate.

I’m sort of in the middle of things.  For some reason I had ear infections for a few years as an adult. I know how painful they can be at times.  I had a full check up with an ENT who said that everything is normal.  I still had chronic ear infections. Fortunately I’ve found some natural remedies that I can use when I start to notice my ears starting to hurt.  I can’t use my remedies on my baby though. I feel like often times waiting it out works, but on rare occasion when it gets worse, antibiotics are our friend.

Ky sleeping in his high chair since laying down was painful.

On Saturday night Kyton was up ALL NIGHT and it was obvious that he was not feeling well at all.   We gave him baby pain reliever for the first time, and it broke the fever, but did very little for his pain.  He has a high pain tolerance normally.  It was clear to us that he had an ear infection.  I knew he needed an antibiotic.  I called the doctors office  first thing Sunday morning, and had the doc on call paged.  I called back a few times and we never heard back.  I knew my baby was hurting bad, and I needed to do something for him, so we made the decision to take him to the ER.

My boy fell asleep while eating.

I know what you are thinking, why not urgent care, or nighttime pediatrics. I now know of a few different after hours options, but at the time my Google search only brought up an urgent care half an hour away, and a shady looking weight loss/ urgent care clinic.  The ER  right around the corner had a 9 minute wait time (per their website.)    Three hours later we walked out prescription in hand.

Fortunately he is much better now, but honestly for about a month there he was not himself.

Awww, so sorry he was sick! Not sleeping at all at night is how I can always tell Caden has an ear infection. I know antibiotics aren't always the answer, but it's so hard to see them in pain. So glad Kyton is feeling better!!

I know it sucks to have to give them things like antibiotics, but medicine always does have a time and place. I hope he heals quickly! Poor guy!

It's terrible! Especially the first couple of times. All three of our grand kids are sick right now also.

Hope Kyton is getting better quickly! If baby is happy...nobody's happy! ;)

I hope he is feeling better. Don't feel bad about going-- that's what the ER is there for.
