Settling into the role of Grandpa

My dad has never been a ‘baby person.’  Before my son was born I would not have thought my father would spend much time holding my son.  I have been amazed to see my dad pick up my son when he starts to fuss during tummy time.  When he became a little noisy during my grandma’s funeral my dad turned around, and grabbed him.  He does not hesitate to carry Kyton into a store, or even around Cleveland while we were going to the Indian's game.  Kyton has inherited my dad’s love of the outdoors, and calms down as soon as they get outside.  I know that when Ky gets older, he’ll have plenty of fun, but it has been fun to see them enjoying each other now.

I also love watching my dad with my kids. He fed and burped my 10 week old the last time we were together and said, "I didn't even do this when I was supposed to! And now look at me." He's also settled right in to being a great Papaw. :) Your photos are beautiful.

Often grandfathers didn't have much opportunity to be with their own children so grandchildren are a much appreciated 'second chance'. I love to see strong men with little children - it's very special.

I was delighted to see my son with his son too. Your dad looks totally natural with your son.

Lovely photos.

What jabblog said.

I wish my daughter could have met my father. He was good with my sister's girls.

This phenomenon is why a father gets to be called grand! Great photos!

As a first time Granna, I can tell you right now that grandchildren change things. I don't know quite how they do it. It is not that we don't have amazing love for our children; but, there is something special there with the grandchildren. Beautiful photos of your family! Thanks so much for sharing them! Candace

What great pictures. You will cherish them forever. Your dad seems to be a very young grandpa. That's good because that means they will have many years together.
