Not a typical Thanksgiving

 The pictures below were actually taken on Thanksgiving day 2009.  I know that it's not the normal way to spend a holiday, but when you have limited vacation time it makes sense to pair a vacation with holidays.  You must come back on Friday and check out my camera critters to see a super cute picture of a critter we saw.  If you have not seen pictures the past few days, check out those too.

When we first saw this it looked like an animal.  Soon we realized it was just a crazy looking plant.

For the last part of the trip to the ruins we rode on a hand cranked boat that went across the river.  The guy who usually cranks visitors across gladly let us give it a try.

The tools that are used to chop off heads... not really.  They told us some CRAZY stories of the Mayans and their traditions.  I would assume that these tools were used to maintain the area, but I only saw them laying there....
