Thousand Word Thursday - Manatees
As I mentioned earlier this week, we visited Blue Srings. I looked back through my pictures and found a neat picture of a manatee from last February. The springs are 72 deg year round and in the summer that feels cool, but in the winter months,it feels warm. As the weather cools, the manatees come in from the st john's river to swim in the warm 72 degree water. The day that we visited (in February) there were something like 180 manatees in the water. Unfortunately they do not allow snorkeling in the water while the manatees are present. I think that it is sad that every manatees I have ever seen has scars from boat propellers.

I think that is so sad too about the scars. I never would have known that. Great photo.
Manatees are so interesting!
Funny, we both posted manatees this week. I just love them. They are so big but gentle looking!
I remember seeing manatees in FL. The scarring is sad. Poor creatures.
Thank so much for sharing. That is so sad about the boat motors. :(
Happy ATWT!
It makes me sad too, and they're so gentle...NOT FAIR!!
Wow, that must have been so cool to see them so close. I agree about the boat propellers. We humans have little respect for other species.
Great pic!
Great picture. Blue springs is such great area. Homosassa Springs is also a nice area to see manatee.
Cool picture! My BFF has always had a thing for manatees, I didn't know what they were until high school (up north don'cha know) :)
That is sad about their scars. We come into their home and they get hurt by it :(
Great picture, Happy ATWT
Oh how neat! I would love to be able to see one in person. It's very sad indeed that such gentle creatures are scarred and hurt by humans :(
